Full Job Description

SELECT is the trade association for the electrical contracting industry in Scotland.

Founded in 1900 as The Electrical Contractors’ Association of Scotland, we were the first trade association in the world to serve the electrical industry. Today, we are Scotland’s largest construction trade association and one of the oldest to represent the ‘modern’ trades. We have c1,250 member businesses, each working to stringent membership criteria and accredited to one or more of ten technical disciplines.

To support our strategic ambition, to be recognised as delivering exceptional support which enables our members to prosper and thrive, we are looking to recruit a Director of Employment Affairs.

Focused on ensuring SELECT serves the best interests of its members and others in the industry, you will provide: high quality employment affairs guidance, assistance and services to members; support in the formulation of industry policy; HR advice and services to the SELECT Management Team. Acting as the secretary of the Scottish Joint Industry Board, you will also develop and maintain excellent  relationships with trade union officials. As a key member of the Management Team, you will directly contribute to the strategic and operational decision-making process and ongoing development of the organisation.

An accomplished HR professional with relevant experience operating at a senior level, you will bring strong employment legislation knowledge coupled with relevant experience of successfully managing and mitigating employment relation issues and risks. With direct experience managing and coordinating the activities of a successful team, our new Director of Employment Affairs will be able to demonstrate a flexible and adaptable approach, excellent communication skills and the ability to quickly establish credibility with a diverse range of stakeholders.
