We are seeking a Dock Master/Trainee Dock Master with proven experience for our busy Aberdeen dry dock, engineering, and fabrication facility.
As part of this role, you will:
- Demonstrate a high commitment to Health and Safety on all our sites and those of our clients.
- Report directly to the Operations Manager.
- Be the company's responsible person for all aspects of the dry dock usage.
- Study vessel docking plans and set out dock blocks in preparation of vessel docking.
- Meet with vessel master and crew to ensure they know the requirements for their vessel docking.
- Control and direct the squad assigned to docking any vessel so that the work is carried out correctly and safely.
- Ensure that all vessels are correctly secured and shored in a professional and safe manner.
- Ensure that the structure of the dock, its associated pumping systems, and the vessel support blocks are maintained.
- Perform Gas Free testing and certification of tanks and enclosed spaces.
The position would ideally suit a candidate with experience/career/background in ship repair. - Experience in the dry docking of ships and vessels would also be extremely beneficial.
- Must be willing to travel to the Company's other facilities around Scotland to carry out similar work.
- Have good written and spoken English.
- Have the right to work in the UK if not already a UK resident.
Be able to work in a busy and challenging ship repair yard / dry dock environment. - Be flexible when necessary to work extended shifts, with weekday overtime and weekend working at premium rates of pay, above the yard's normal 39-hour working week.
- It is likely that the candidate will be a time-served tradesperson from a shipwright, joinery, steelwork, or engineering background.
- Driving licence essential.
