Educational Attainment Apprentice (8431), Lewis & Harris Schools
37 hours per week, year round, fixed term for 4 years
£25,892 per annum, inclusive of £2,742 Distant Islands Allowance per annum

The post holder will be required to develop skills, work directly and support children, young people and their families close the poverty related attainment gap by using targeted interventions in school, home and community settings.  To assist in planning and provide opportunities for children and young people to participate in wider achievements in school and beyond which have a positive impact on their wellbeing. Duties will include; working in schools, supporting pupils with a poverty related attainment gap with educational work, under the direction of the class teacher/ head of school/headteacher; working in collaboration with schools to plan, organise, lead breakfast and afterschool clubs as required, specifically those who are eligible through the Pupil Equity Fund; providing, in partnership with other staff and agencies holiday support programmes that will encourage and develop participation of our children and young people,  assisting in the maintenance of appropriate daily records and the completion of all necessary paperwork.

You must have an understanding of the needs of vulnerable groups of young people who may be experiencing poverty, and including those who are care experienced (looked after) and knowledge of young people who are particularly vulnerable in terms of social, emotional, behavioural, learning or family difficulties. The ability to work and relate well with children and young people including those who have behavioural difficulties, learning, social and emotional needs is essential.

You must hold a National 5 in English. You must be able to complete an SVQ Level 3 Social Services (Children and Young People) within 12 months and be committed to complete the BA Childhood Practice.

You must hold a full Driving Licence or must obtain this within 6 months of your start date.

You must be willing to travel as a proportion of time will be allocated to Harris.

This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with children.

Salary for the above post is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance.  Appointment to the post will be on the first point of the grade.
