Reports to Plant Manager with dotted line to Director of EHS & Security

Job dimensions

-Responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, federal and company regulatory standards and policies related to environment and industrial safety at Dalton, GA facility.
-Acts as company technical resource for environmental, industrial and process safety challenges
-Create an environment to implement cultural and behavioural changes in EHS performance at the site.
-Leads Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives for Dalton Site within local community; and
-Ensure the EHS programs and activities are sustained.
Activities

-Actively leads and manages EHS program, including EHS training, incident management, waste management and minimization, environmental reporting, and emergency response.
-Act as Incident Commander / Safety Officer in coordination with local EMA/ Fire & Rescue;
-Ensure compliance with PSM program in general, as well as specific elements with direct responsibility, e.g. employee participation, training
-Foster a positive site safety culture through personal example and leadership of site Safety Committee
-Participate on and coach management teams with regard to EHS issues/activities
-Interface with regulatory agencies, as needed, on compliance and/or enforcement issues
-Develop and manage the EHS Management System, including translation of regulatory and company requirements into effective procedures, communications and training programs
-Lead/participate on incident investigation teams consistent with the level of EHS expertise needed
-Lead/participate in process hazard analyses (PHAs) and other process safety activities
-Acts as EHS technical resource for EHS information and regulatory compliance related to capital project reviews
-Monitor, track and report on EHS KPIs and develop action plans to lead targeted improvement in Environmental and Health and Safety performance
-Utilize standard problem solving tools (i.e. A3, 5Y, and fishbone diagrams) in conjunction with SMART elements to foster a culture of Continuous Improvement within the scope of your position;
-Fulfills all other duties as assigned.
Context and environment

-Must be capable of effectively communicating in management meetings, plant meetings, and in training sessions.
-Ability to identify, assess, prioritize, and manage risk appropriately.
-Must be capable of technical interaction with executive management through operators on the floor
-Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple projects, often on short or changing timelines
-Must be capable of occasional company required travel
-Must have a technical background to understand the specific site operations and EHS challenges, likely gained by working in a similar industry and/or through schooling.
-Ability to drive desired behaviors from site leadership team through to the operators on the floor
-Influence site leadership team to ensure team completes actions using a prioritized approach.
-Ability to provide clear EHS leadership and vision for the site and navigate in a highly complex matrixed organization.
-Must be able to manage a large number of complex EHS activities

Accountabilities

-Educate, facilitate, and support the organization in implementation of a Continuous Improvement Culture that has a never ending focus on improving business results
-Actively identify, communicate and implement improvement initiatives in EHS
-Effectively and aggressively respond to company KPI shortcomings
Qualifications / experience required

-Preferred minimum of an undergraduate degree in occupational safety, or other related discipline(s) with five years relevant work experience OR at minimum 8 years commensurate and progressive work experience in chemical/processing/coating/extrusion industry with deep involvement in EHS matters
-PSM experience is preferred
-A working knowledge of federal and state environmental, safety, and health regulations; Process Safety Management; emergency response involving chemical accidents and hazardous waste operations
-Licensed Wastewater Operator in the State of Georgia, or the ability to become a license Industrial Wastewater Operator within 6 months of placement
-Strong communication skills including the ability to influence change at all levels
-Strong project leadership skills and history of successful completion
-Demonstrated computer skills associated with databases, web-based tools, spreadsheets, etc...
-Likely a subject matter expert in one or more EHS areas (e.g. manual handling and ergonomics, BBS etc)
-Ability to work independently and accomplish company goals & targets
