Full Job Description

The main responsibility of the role is to apply technical and project engineering knowledge, business promotion & establishment, quality and safety leadership, and continuous development in support of Company operations and project activities.

Main responsibilities
PROJECT ENGINEERING:
Major responsibility is to provide, with assistance from experienced engineers, an engineering function within the establishment, encompassing, but not limited to, the following:

  • Provide technical input in support of engineering projects.

  • Preparation of proposals and tenders.

  • Administration of assigned project files.

  • Liaison with clients and subcontractors.

  • Preparation of calculations and work procedures.

  • Completion of purchase requisitions.

  • Arrange equipment dispatch and transportation.

  • Compilation of job close-out reports.

  • Preparation of engineering invoice drafts and financial control of assigned projects.

  • Carry out site / offshore visits when requested and prepare detailed activity reports.


  • BUSINESS PROMOTION & ESTABLISHMENT:
  • To carry out an Engineer function within the Engineering & Operations Department providing a support function to the establishment in all aspect of cranes, lifting and support service activities.

  • Contribute to the establishment sales effort, through client contact and meeting the client's needs.

  • In conjunction with the Engineering Team Leader and Business / Account Manager identify areas for business development and improvement.

  • Attend client premises as and when required, to engage daily operations and planning activities with the clients.

  • When undertaking visits to site or offshore installations, promote and maintain effective communications with Client representatives and Sparrows Offshore personnel.


  • BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION:
  • Provide an administration and technical support function to the business unit for all service area activities.

  • Responsible for assisting with the regular and correct compilation and condition monitoring of information relating to all aspects of the allocated projects.


  • CONTINUOUS DEVELOPMENT:
  • Participate in Company Engineering Development initiatives, taking responsibility for own professional development with guidance from Engineering Team Leader, manager or mentor.

  • Attend, and actively participate in, all training provided by company, whether internally or externally provided

  • Carry out continuing professional development necessary to maintain and enhance competence in own area of responsibility.

  • Adopt a co-operative attitude towards being assigned alternative or additional duties to that which they are primarily employed.

  • Demonstrate honesty and integrity in dealing with people and use behaviour and language which is appropriate for the workplace.

  • HSEQ Responsibilities
  • It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with, and follows the Company's Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Management System and takes an active part in the compliance and improvement of the Management Systems.

  • The incumbent must report any accidents, incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems according to the Management System processes/procedures.

  • The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under country-specific health, safety and/or environmental legislation to follow these.

  • The incumbent is also responsible for the health and safety arrangements of subordinates (if any) and for any persons visiting them while on the Company premises.

    Qualifications & Experience HND, BSc or BEng (Hons) within a relevant discipline, or time served with 5+ years hands on experience, within a relevant trade.

  • Excellent communication skills to enable effective liaison with clients, vendors and other members of staff.

  • Effective in dealing with commercial and management aspects of the role

  • Careful and meticulous professional and a motivated self-starter

  • Good technical writing skills and proficient use of MS Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel etc)
