Bam Nuttall is currently recruiting for an experienced Engineering Manager to work within our Scotland Region. This position will be
reporting to the Regional Engineering Manager, to develop their skills in all aspects of Civil Engineering for supporting Pre-construction and Project teams throughout Scotland, particularly in respect to the Energy Renewables sector.

    As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the following:
  • Establish and promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters in conjunction with the HSQE department.

  • Collate and promote strategic advice and knowledge associated with design management and engineering best practice in conjunction with the design delivery adviser and coordinator.

  • Take a personal interest in identifying, coaching and developing key staff.

  • Provide operational, strategic and contractual advice and service to bid preparation and project management when associated with design management and engineering.

  • Promote business process for design management and engineering in conjunction with area submission requirements.

  • Manage delivery of guidance and service support to bid and project meetings to contribute a clear view for delivering design management and engineering.

  • Working with and assisting the Design Manager to ensure interfaces with external agencies and third parties are managed in a professional manner.

  • Advising clients and consultants on Permanent Works as part of pre-contract and ECI work - technical reviews; overseeing engineering decisions; buildability support.

  • Providing a technical lead for designers and fabricators.

  • Prepare, maintain and communicate design commissioning, commercial and delivery records

  • Promote business in design management and engineering by personal contact with employers and stakeholders, demonstrating high levels of commitment to their requirements.

  • Ensuring compliance with the CDM 2015 requirements, for both internal and external designers and providing technical support for the residual design risk management framework.

  • Supporting tender teams, project sites and specialist operations on Temporary Work with early involvement; design, checking and advice; design compliance.

  • Ensuring technical competence of a Design team.

  • Keep management informed of business area activity and progress achieved.

  • Reviewing and actively investigate new techniques and technologies to promote sustainability, efficiency and safety, including attending ICE events.

  • Raise the profile of BAM Nuttall in design management and engineering, attending conferences and seminars, presenting when needed.

  • Perform peer review of technical proposals.


  • Who are we looking for?

    Your qualifications, skills and experience should include:
  • Degree or Masters in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification

  • Chartered or Incorporated Civil or Structural Engineer preferred or alternatively working towards chartership

  • Excellent communication and presenting skills, and ability to deliver training and coaching on a one to one or group basis

  • First class collaboration skills, and confidence in presenting innovative ideas to peers, third parties and higher management

  • Analytical thinker and planner with good organisational skills, and not afraid to bring forward present unconventional routes to overcoming engineering challenges

  • Experience in design, engineering management, temporary works, and/or delivery of large infrastructure projects


  • Desirable Experience:
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering principles, geotechnics and structures.

  • Experience of temporary works systems, processes, design and specification, including knowledge of BS 5975:2019.

  • Understanding of design and construction processes, CDM 2015 regulations and relevant government legislation, design standards, BIM methods, 2D and 3D drawing, commercial and risk awareness and contract forms.

  • For internal applicants knowledge of NP20 (Design Management for design services); NP19 Control of Temporary Works; and company procedures, guidance policy and relevant government legislation.

  • Experience or knowledge of ICE routes to Chartership.
