As an experienced Environment Specialist, your role will be pivotal in providing essential sustainability support throughout Scotland's Railway, spanning from the initial design and construction phases to the ongoing maintenance and operation of our railway infrastructure. Collaborating closely with both internal and external stakeholders, you'll deliver specialist sustainability support and guidance to ensure our operations consistently adhere to the highest environmental standards.

Using your knowledge and experience, you will identify initiatives to enhance environmental performance across the region and contribute to the delivery of Scotland's Railway's Climate Action Plan. In addition to offering expert advice and support, you will conduct site visits and inspections, identifying areas for improvement and implementing sustainable practices aimed at minimising our environmental impact.

About the role (External)

Here are some of the duties your role will include: -

· Assist in implementing sustainability policies, strategies, and business objectives, ensuring alignment with regional responsibilities for managing key environmental and social impacts.

· Provide expert technical advice on environmental management and sustainability requirements throughout project planning, design and delivery.

· Conduct assurance activities across the Scotland region to evaluate compliance with legal and other requirements, record and report findings, using outcomes to drive continuous improvement.

· Collaborate with national teams on sustainability-related projects to represent the Scotland region.

· Investigate environmental incidents, providing support and guidance to relevant teams to implement corrective actions effectively.

· Support the delivery of Scotland's Railway Climate Action Plan.

· Develop internal and external sustainability communications, such as cascades, briefings, lessons learned, and case studies, fostering a culture of learning within Scotland's Railway.

· Monitor and analyse sustainability data identifying trends and improvement opportunities.

· Cultivate and manage relationships with internal stakeholders such as project and frontline teams, and external stakeholders including the supply chain, to facilitate the sharing of key sustainability information and guidance.

· Good understanding of UK and European environmental legislation and regulation

· Good understanding of environmental management system

· Knowledge of maintenance delivery process and techniques

· Good interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisation skills.

It’s desirable if you have it to help give you context to the role: -

· Knowledge of operational railway environment

· Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard

· Membership of professional body

Salary: Starting at £35,582 and rising to £40,029 per annum
