Full Job Description

In the Spring of 2025, the CMA will host the International Competition Network (ICN) Annual Conference in Edinburgh. Held over the course of 3 days, the event is expected to be attended by over 600 people, including a mix of officials from overseas national competition authorities, specialist press, academics, and non-government advisors.

As Events Manager, you will work with the Events Team to organise the conference, leading a small sub-team to assist with the process. This will involve organising and delivering a range of activities, including a 600-person conference, a senior dinner hosted by the CMA Chief Executive or CMA Chair, a welcome reception and up to two social activities.

You and your team will oversee the development and design of documents that capture and track spend, liaise with external suppliers, issue steers to your team and report on progress to senior leaders. You will also ensure that a robust project management framework is followed throughout the project, aiming to achieve and improve value for money where possible.

In addition to your conference duties, you will also assist with the delivery of other CMA events, requiring occasional travel to CMA offices across the UK.

You will be a self-starter who can perform well in a fast-paced project environment, utilising your excellent people management skills to inspire others to adopt a proactive approach to their work.

You will need considerable experience of planning and delivering large-scale external events, as well as experience of high-level budget management, spend reporting and financial analysis.

Demonstrable experience of establishing and managing relationships with a range of stakeholders is essential, along with experience of delivering project outcomes.

Like many other organisations, we operate a hybrid working model with a mix of office and home working. We believe this supports us to deliver our best work while allowing the flexibility to maintain balanced and healthy lives.

The CMA are an accredited Disability Confident Employer, and we are an equal opportunities employer, welcoming suitably qualified applicants from all backgrounds.

We recruit by merit on the basis of fair and open competition, as outlined in the Civil Service Commission's recruitment principles.

In return the CMA is a hugely diverse, rewarding and stimulating place to work - an opportunity to work for the public good and to stretch and develop yourself in doing so. We offer generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, at least 25 days leave (increasing to 30 over five years), and generous maternity/paternity leave provision. You can also take advantage of interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme, our employee assistance programme and flexible working options.
