The Family Learning Coordinator is an exciting new post that will support the delivery of Family Learning across Midlothian, the post holder will align with the Midlothian Family Wellbeing Service to support the implementation and development of early supports to families across Midlothian.

This will include working closely with partners, including the 3rd Sector to enable the best use of resources across Midlothian to ensure options for family members be supported to learn together.

A key function of the post is to develop a rights based, non stigmatising approach to family learning across children’s services, education, the 3rd Sector, health and social care professionals.

We are looking for someone who is a creative thinker and highly motivated to improve universal and targeted support for families.

A minimum of an SVQ or HNC related to working in the early years, community education or social care.

A current driver’s licence.

Experience of working with children’s and families within and across communities and in settings. Particularly education and the early years.

Sound knowledge of The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), ensuring the rights of the child are at the forefront of any decisions or supports offered.

The post holder will require to have an understanding and responses to safeguarding issues. Public protection training will form part of mandatory training for this role.

The post holder must be able to demonstrate competence, knowledge and skills in coordinating services and /or projects is essential.

The post holder must be able to motivate, initiate and develop new ideas and approaches along with an ability to support staff in effecting changes within the service

An ability to use resources imaginatively, using different approaches e.g. group work, developing tailored packages.

Knowledge of family learning and family support services.

Experience in and ability to handle complex issues and draw appropriate conclusions.

Experience of quality assurance processes.

Good knowledge and understanding of what effective partnership working entails.

Working Pattern: Monday – Thursday 9.00-5.00 Friday 9.00- 3.30

Weeks per year: 52

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £36,311.02 per annum.

Requirements

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children or protected adults.
Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children and Protected Adults.
