Your New Role 

 

We have 2 fantastic opportunities for permanent Highways Engineers to join our NMC North East.

  • 1x Aberdeen
  • 1x Perth

These are hybrid roles, offering you flexibility to work office and home working 2 days per week.  

 

NMC NE is working in partnership with Transport Scotland Northeast since August 2022, with an increased focus on supporting the creation of sustainable futures for communities, together we will achieve net zero targets and improve the customer experience. 

 

Covering 593Km of network, we provide routine highways, bridges and structure maintenance as well as designing and managing road safety schemes. 

 

By ensuring our roads and highways are well-maintained through all-weather seasons and traffic incidents, we aim to create well-functioning, safe spaces which minimise disruption, keep people moving and support thriving communities. 

 

The standard hours of work are Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.  

 

The Highways Engineers are responsible for the planning, design, and execution of all Routine Budget schemes (0300 work code) for the NMC NE Unit as part of the Network Team.

 

A key aspect of this role is to assist the Area Manager in delivery of Client and Amey expectations to deliver the annual routine works programme. The role is Client and Public facing to address issues raised within the North East trunk road unit.

 

You will be responsible for

  • To identify and implement routine and cyclic maintenance works and programmes
  • To demonstrate and promote a culture of route ownership and pride in the Network
  • Liaison with other teams within Contract
  • To provide an effective liaison point with all other outside agencies
  • To encourage development of team members
  • Drive efficiencies within team
  • Engage with design team during involvement in routine maintenance works. 
  • Ensuring compliance with procedures and direction of Core Management Team
  • The maintenance and improvement of the network in accordance with policies and requirements
  • Road space management and implementation of appropriate mitigation measures
  • Implement an effective partnering relationship with in-house teams, contractors and clients
  • Comply with relevant health & safety legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations
  • Comply with the Integrated Management System

What are we looking for?

 

We’re looking for individuals who have acquired strong skills in roads engineering, project and commercial management and the development of collaborative working relationships. As well as able to communicate targets and priorities to staff, clients, members of the public and delivery partners. You have capabilities to meet tight schedules and targets.

  • Proficient in project management.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • IT literate.
  • Experience of working and developing team integration.
  • Client management experience.
  • Ideally an HND/HNC/degree in civil engineering
  • Experience in programme management.

 

Ideally you will have previous experience working on a trunk road maintenance contract or having successfully fulfilled a role of a similar nature would be advantageous.
