Your New Role

 

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Highways Technician to join our NMC SW account in Polmadie. This is an onsite role, you must be able to travel to Polmadie, Glasgow.

 

Our NMC SW account is working in partnership with Transport Scotland Southwest since August 2020, we are responsible for inspections, cyclical maintenance, asset management, scheme delivery as well as winter maintenance and incident response.

 

The team are first on the scene to assist road users on the road network, deliver engineering design and operational delivery services for more than 600 kilometres of road and 1,650 structures enabling reliable journey times and a high level of customer care for the people and businesses that use these roads every day.

 

By ensuring our roads and highways are well-maintained through all-weather seasons and traffic incidents, we aim to create well-functioning, safe spaces which minimise disruption, keep people moving and support thriving communities.

 

The Highways Technician plays an important part providing support and assistance to the team in all relevant aspects of investigation for Structural maintenance schemes, including site visual inspections, liaising with coring contractors and assisting with grip testing operations.

 

The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Please note that this role will include working nights or weekends when required.

 

You will be responsible for:

  • Assist in the programming of visual inspections
  • Carrying out site visual inspections
  • Prepare reports from data gathered from site
  • Keep accurate data to support SOI (Statement of Intent) preparation
  • Identification of new schemes
  • Regular Liaison with coring supply chain partners
  • Assist Senior Technician and Project Managers in all aspects of scheme investigation
  • Prepare SOI(I) documents as required
  • Comply with relevant Health & Safety legislation
  • Comply with Amey Integrated Management System

 

We want to hear from you if you are:

  • Full clean UK Driving License
  • Experience of Road surfacing / construction materials
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm, flexibility, patience and commitment
  • innovative and a forward thinker
  • Able to prioritise and manage own time to best effect
  • IT literate.

 

Ideally you will hold an HND/HNC or similar degree in civil engineering to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
