Amongst the 4000 staff at Midlothian Council includes a host of talented digital and technical change professionals. It is within this area that the IT Technician will sit. The successful candidate will be joining the Council at a hugely exciting time as we embark on a wide-scale transformation supported by our new Digital Strategy.

Not only will you be supporting the migration to Windows 11, but you will also be helping create a more efficient organisation with enhanced levels of security, digital capability and adaptability. Midlothian Council are recruiting a contract IT Technician with a collaborative and focused approach and strong interpersonal skills. The IT Technician will play a pivotal role in the migration to Windows 11.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage the migration to Windows 11 for Midlothian Councils’ diverse range of stakeholders
  • Install and configure Windows 11 on individual computers and laptops, upgrading existing systems and deploying new hardware
  • Transfer user data, settings, and applications from older operating systems to Windows 11 while ensuring data integrity and security
  • Conduct testing of Windows 11 installations to identify and resolve compatibility issues, software conflicts, or performance concerns
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to end-users throughout the migration process

Key Skills:

  • A solid understanding of Windows operating systems, including Windows 11, as well as proficiency in system installation, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to identify and resolve compatibility and software issues that may arise during the migration process
  • A keen eye for detail to ensure that data, settings, and applications are transferred accurately and securely
  • Effective communication skills (both written and spoken) for interacting with end-users, internal teams, and other stakeholders throughout the migration process
  • The ability to plan, organise, and manage the Windows 11 migration project to set timelines, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring that the project stays on track and within budget
