Full Job Description

We are recruiting for a Vehicle Technician Maintenance Chargehand to be based at our Dumfries workshop facility in the West Region, the successful candidate may be required to work from other Scottish Ambulance Service Workshops, on occasion and if required. The successful candidate will be one of a highly skilled and dedicated team reporting to the Fleet Maintenance Manager.

The successful candidate will:

· At least three years supervisory experience in a busy workshop

· Be a qualified Vehicle Technician with experience in the maintenance and repair of cars and light commercial vehicles.

· Have undertaken an automotive apprenticeship and be qualified to a minimum of NVQ Level 3 (or comparable qualification) or equivalent experience.

· Have experience operating in a demanding working environment with health and safety at the forefront of our operation.

· Be confident in delivering a high-quality vehicle and equipment support to our front line colleagues throughout the region.

· Have a sound working knowledge of vehicle diagnostics.

· Be familiar in the use of internet and e-mail is desirable.

· Hold a full driving licence with C1 entitlement or attain C1 entitlement within 12 months (support may be available to attain this and can be discussed at interview).

This is a full-time position working dayshift 37.5 hours Monday to Friday. You will also be required to be part of a rotating pattern of on call weekend working, with occasional overtime and public holiday working, both paid at the appropriate enhanced rate.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
