An opportunity has arisen within Mental Health Services for a Medical Secretary to join our current team.

The successful candidate would also be expected to provide cover for other secretaries at times of annual/sick leave.  The successful candidate will be part of a team of Medical Secretaries who provide comprehensive secretarial, administrative and patient co-ordination services for Consultant Psychiatrists and associated medical staff who provide outreach clinics throughout Argyll and Bute. 

You will have significant secretarial experience with a high level of office practice skills, have knowledge of medical terminology and be proficient in the use of office software and  patient information systems (such as Micrsoft Office, e-mail, Hospital Intranet, TrakCare PMS, SciStore etc.), with a minimum typing speed of 60 wpm.  Knowledge of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment)(Scotland) Act 2003 would be an advantage. 

Candidates must be self-motivated and possess excellent  organisational, communication and problem solving skills.  The ability to work effectively within a team environment as well as individually are essential.  This post will be worked 30 hours over 5 days.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
