Loretto School is one of Britain’s leading independent boarding and day schools located on the outskirts of Edinburgh and we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as our Musician-in-Residence within the Junior School and Senior School.

 

We are looking for someone with high expectations of pupils, who will maintain the high standards achieved in recent years while also promoting a love of the subject inside and outside the classroom. The Musician-in-Residence will work alongside the Director of Music and Junior School Music Teacher to enhance all aspects of musical life at Loretto. The post will suit a recent graduate who is looking to rapidly advance their music teaching career.

Below is an overview of the main duties and responsibilities of the role but this is not exhaustive and can be subject to change. To a certain degree, the role will be adapted to the successful candidate’s individual skills and future aspirations and they will be encouraged to pursue and develop their strengths and interests. The ability to accompany all pupils at performances, and knowledge of DAWs and recording studio technology is desirable.

 

Your duties will include:

·        Assisting in the teaching of music classes under the guidance of the Director of Music and/or Junior School Music Teacher.

·        Assisting with teaching theory and aural classes.

·        Rehearsing and accompanying pupils in preparation for, and at, concerts and examinations.

·        Assisting with the direction and production of school plays and musicals.

·        Assisting with choir, orchestra and ensemble rehearsals.

·        Assisting with the organisation of formal and informal concerts.

·        Assisting pupils in the recording studio and in the production of DAW compositions.

·        Assisting the Director of Music and/or Junior School Music Teacher with departmental organisation.

·        Attending music department meetings.

·        Accompanying pupils on music trips.

·        Ability to work effectively as part of a team dedicated to the care and development of all pupils.

You will be IT literate including a good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. You will uphold the ethos and traditions of the School and have a values-driven approach to your work. Accommodation may be available.

 

Salary will be determined by experience and aptitude for the role.
