If so, we are looking for you to join us as an ND Lead Engineer!, The Nuclear Decommissioning Lead Engineer is responsible for providing expert technical support and intelligent and informed customer oversight to Nuclear Operations. They will ensure safe waste management and decommissioning in accordance with all licenses, regulatory bodies, company business strategies and industry best practices., We are looking for Lead Engineers with Nuclear Decommissioning experience. This is a key role that is responsible for forming and maintaining the overarching strategic direction of decommissioning works within their assigned area. They are required to work with a wide variety of key stakeholders and regulators to ensure decommissioning strategy and plans are safely delivered within the required timescales.

Along with this, your roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Provide engineering input, oversight, and authoritative advice, to ensure safe, efficient and reliable decommissioning.

  • Develop the decommissioning strategies for the AGRs, in collaboration with NRS and the NDA where appropriate, to ensure deconstruction strategic alignment and seamless transfer for the AGR sites

  • Develop the decommissioning strategies for SZB to ensure appropriate plans are in place.

  • Provide engineering input, strategy development and authoritative advice to ensure safe, efficient and reliable management of Uncontracted Liabilities.

  • Support maintenance of SLC 35 compliance arrangements for decommissioning, and associated corporate documentation, to ensure compliance with site licence requirements.

  • Support the interface with regulators and other key external stakeholders to ensure positive relationships are maintained.

  • Support synergy working groups with Nuclear Restoration Services to ensure taxpayer value is realised, and to improve practices through sharing of learning.

  • Maintain appropriate safety case knowledge authorisation, including authorised designer, to ensure compliance with the company Maintain Design Integrity process.

  • Provision of authoritative technical advice, to ensure safe, efficient and reliable defueling and decommissioning.

    To be successful in this role, we're looking for you to hold a minimum of a HNC or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a similar technical discipline. A degree in a relevant background would also be advantageous as well as experience.


  • Being a Chartered Engineer or professionally qualified would be advantageous and you will have the desire to continue your professional development.

    Knowledge of Nuclear Plant systems is required, and some experience in a technical oversight role is desirable.

    You will propose and steer appropriate SQEP input into the decommissioning strategy and bring extensive knowledge in your own technical area with the ability to provide direction to others.

    You will have excellent communication skills, with a proven track record of being able to build solid working relationships with external regulators and stakeholders and being able to influence key people across all levels of the organisation.

    You will need to have an in depth understanding of the practical application of decommissioning and demolition, so experience working on a Nuclear Power Station and knowledge of decommissioning regulatory requirements and liabilities management would be advantageous.

    Ideally, you will have good knowledge of engineering, design, safety case and nuclear facility operations.

    You will have a strategic mindset, a flexible approach to your work and be a highly motivated and self-sufficient individual.

    We can offer a competitive salary from £71,101 - £84,892 and you'll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement based on your demonstration of competences, experience, and qualifications.
