Full Job Description

The Operations Manager will liaise with our unit managers and supervisors to ensure that each location runs smoothly, our customers leave with a memorable experience and staff are looked after in a happy working environment.

You will be charged with ensuring units are meeting financial targets are maintaining/improving wage and food margins. You will ensure standards of food production and service are kept high and that hygiene systems are working and up-to-date. You will reinforce positive morale, and uphold the values of the MILK brand.

Applicants should be collaborative and enjoy working in team/group dynamics but should also be comfortable working independently and with client meetings. Clear communication with managers other team members as well as clients is important.

We expect our Operations Manager to be tech savvy and be able to navigate Excel, Microsoft word as well as our POS software and bookings system, online shop and staff scheduling system.

Ideally you would have knowledge of seasonal food and food trends and be an outstanding cook. You should be able to advise chefs and managers on our food style and ensure our menus are imaginative, fresh and seasonal.

We are seeking a focused, positive, hardworking and highly organised individual. We are a small company and part of the role can be hands on working with the team at times to ensure the smooth running of each unit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operational systems and processes and looking for opportunities to improve.


  • Collaboration with Café Managers to ensure service standards are met, reinforce positive morale, and uphold the values of the MILK brand.


  • Recruitment, HR & staff relations -working with unit managers


  • Co-ordinate events


  • Wage & food margin GP targets


  • Managing the Café Managers


  • Help train and support managers


  • Undertake planning, email coordination and administrative tasks related to event clients


  • Uphold MILK's standards for respect, professionalism, efficiency and community at all times


  • Assist with other administrative, onsite and facilities support as needed


  • Ensuring smooth running of the company in the directors absence

    Extremely organised


  • Enthusiastic and an inspiring leader


  • Good with technology


  • Relevant food knowledge/experience


  • Have great coffee knowledge


  • Working knowledge of HACCP


  • Have great people skills


  • Have event catering experience


  • A driving license would be beneficial, Hospitality Management: 2 years (required)

    We are an Edinburgh based independent food company founded in 2010. We have 5 varied cafe locations across the city and also run a thriving events and catering business.


  • We proudly make everything in-house using whole, organic and natural ingredients as much as possible. We serve daily menus with changing seasonal ingredients. We strive to be as sustainable as we can in our practices and the suppliers choose to work with.

    Our coffee is equally as important as our food and we serve artisanal barista coffee using direct trade from a trusted farm in Brazil which is then roasted here in Edinburgh.
