Part-time Personal Assistants for physically disabled man £12.32 per hour- Edinburgh / Pilton area

I am an outgoing 57-year old man, ex sportsman as para-olympics athlete who is partially sighted, since birth as a result of cerebral palsy. Due to poor mobility, I walk with two sticks indoors and I am a manual wheelchair user when out in the community. My areas of interest are cinema, football, swimming, horse racing, shopping and visiting places.

I am looking for one or two people available to provide 16 hours of flexible support per week to predominantly assist me going out and about in the community, doing social activities, companionship and empower me to maintain a level of physical activity and sustain connections with my local community. I would also expect the successful applicant to accompany me once a month on a day trip to visit different places outside Edinburgh using public transport.

Because of poor eyesight, I also need assistance with food preparation., Please note Lothian Centre for Inclusive Living (LCIL) provides support to individual disabled employers. LCIL is not the employer and only provides the recruitment and administrative support to the individual employer.

You will have experience working with disabled people although training will be provided to understand my personal circumstances.

Because the post involves pushing me in a manual wheelchair when going out, you must be fit and strong enough to carry out this task. Ideally, you will hold a manual handling certificate although this is not essential as guidance will be provided.

Knowledge of basic food hygiene essential.

Tuesday either 11am till 5pm or 12pm till 6pm.
Thursday 11am till 6pm
Friday 12pm till 5pm or 1pm till 6pm
Once a month: day trip outside Edinburgh on a Saturday.
Hourly rate: £12.32 per hour
