Pharmacy Technician

Band 4 £27,598 to £30,019 per annum

Plus £1,279 Distant Islands Allowance per annum

37 hrs per week

Permanent Contract

(Part Time Hours may be considered)

This post is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, self-motivated technician to lead and continue to develop the service and project work within NHS Western Isles.  You will be an integral member of Western Isles Hospital pharmacy team where we are at the forefront of developing technical services towards advanced practice with focus on the patient journey from admission to discharge.

You require an approved General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) qualification for this role (https://www.pharmacyregulation.org/education/approved-providers-education-and-training/approved-courses-pharmacy-technician) and an up-to-date GPhC registration

The successful candidate will be a dynamic and highly motivated pharmacy technician keen to develop their clinical knowledge and skills within a supportive environment and work to provide high quality, patient focused pharmaceutical care to inpatients. You will be involved in obtaining and documenting accurate medication histories, providing patient education on high-risk medicines, facilitating, and streamlining both the admission and discharge process at ward level, working with the multidisciplinary team, liaising with GPs, Community Pharmacies and other members of the Primary Care team.

You should have post-qualification experience and have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to organise and prioritise workload. The post holder will be required to participate in public holiday rotas.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
