Our specialist client is currently a recruiting a Process Safety Engineer who will champion a culture of Process Safety Excellence, facilitate process risk assessments, and help develop safety operating practices to support plant operations.

You will provide technical leadership and support to identify hazards, assess risks and provide cost efficient management solutions.

Please note that this will be a home-based role with regular visits to our client’s sites throughout Scotland.

Responsibilities

Responsible for ensuring continued compliance across all sites in relation to the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR). Required to liaise and coordinate activities with our insurance partners (Zurich) to ensure new equipment covered by PSSR is inspected & tested as per the Written Scheme of Examination (WSE) requirements.

Responsible for chairing and/or organising process safety assessments for new projects and/or modifications to existing plants. Assessments include (but not limited to): Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA); Safety Integrity Level (SIL) determination; Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations (DSEAR) assessments, Hazard & Operability Studies (HAZOP) etc.

Provide advice and support to operations and projects ensuring proactive and proportionate approach to process safety compliance whilst aiding continuous improvement in productivity and site performance.

Assist site with visits from external regulators (namely the HSE and/or SEPA) and liaise with them on subjects relating to process safety.

Audit industrial sites on Process Safety Management good practices and relevant regulations (COMAH, LOLER, PUWER, DSEAR, etc.)

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent in process safety Certification: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), Associate Safety Professional (ASP). Other relevant process safety certification

Well-grounded understanding of Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR), Control of Major Accident

Hazards (COMAH) regulations and Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations

(DSEAR).

Background in Process Safety or alternatively experience working in Anaerobic Digestion (AD) / Water Treatment / Chemical or Energy plants.

Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of working within a time critical process environment.

Knowledge of existing and impending environmental and health and safety legislation.

Experience of investigating incidents.

Experience in Process Safety Management System implementation
