THE ROLE: This is a key role within the Property Services department reporting directly to and providing support to the Property Manager (Edinburgh & East). Responsible for the supervision of ScotRail painting teams day-to-day site activities and the co-ordination of teams for 7-year rolling work programmes and seasonal activities in a safe and efficient manner, with minimum impact on the environment and operational railway. Support painting teams to ensure all work is of a high standard and in accordance with the relevant specifications and latest practices. Liaise with PDCs in other areas to ensure best practice and collaboration across teams. Deliver a safe, efficient, and professional painting and support function to the wider business.

THE PERSON: The successful individual will have a good technical knowledge of our stations and their operations, and the ability to collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders as required. A strong communicator with the ability to influence at all levels and a team worker with excellent interpersonal skills who can inspire trust and confidence in peers, direct reports and internal clients. An organised, self-motivated and positive individual with resilience and decision-making skills. The ability to work with an appropriate degree of independence and judgment on a day to day basis, and comfortable escalating issues when required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: A knowledge and understanding of maintenance and delivery improvement processes within the Rail/Transport Industry. Knowledge of maintenance activities within the Rail & Transport Industry and relevant successful painting experience in railway or another commercial industry. Experience of delivering projects varying in value and complexity. An understanding of contract management would be an advantage. Environmental and commercial awareness in connection with the Property Services and painting team activity would be an advantage. The successful individual will be proficient in surface preparation, paint application techniques, knowledge of different paints and finishes with an attention to detail and good time management skills.

The ability to support the Property Manager in the management and coordination of painting projects, worksites, and resources. Knowledge of operational railway environment and relevant standards and procedures including Health & Safety legislation & procedures would be an advantage. An understanding of the road vehicle policy and lease contract and support would be beneficial. An understanding of the Service Quality regime and CAMS (Asset Management) system as well as an understanding of the Property Service Desk fault reporting processes is a requirement. The nature of the work will require some flexibility with supervision of tasks and projects to be delivered out with normal working hours.

The successful candidate is expected to be a time served painter with City & Guilds / NVQ or equivalent qualifications and must have proven experience as a painter in indoor and outdoor settings and commercial environments would be advantageous. An attention to detail and the ability to quality check work, provide instruction/training as required and the ability to work with precision is required. The ability to drive various road vehicles is a requirement.

Selection process: Selected candidates may be invited to complete online assessment. The final stage will be interview. The next stage for the successful candidate will be an on-line medical questionnaire. Appointees must submit at least two satisfactory references, Disclosure Scotland clearance and complete a six-month probation period. Training initially involves a two-day on-line induction programme.
