Full Job Description

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Recruiting Board.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Catering Supervisor to join our dedicated team of staff in the Catering Department at Victoria Hospital and Whyteman's Brae Hospital, Kirkcaldy.

Working closely with the Catering Manager you will ensure there is a high quality of service provision and that all new projects are moved forward in a timely manner.  You will also be responsible for ensuring food safety systems are followed and meet the needs of all service users.
You will be responsible for managing and supporting all supervisors and catering staff within the department, ensuring the correct systems and policies are followed; this includes stores, kitchen, retail, and the patient food service.  This is a hands-on position where you will be involved in the daily running of the department.  You should have excellent communication skills with an eye for detail, be a good problem solver and always looking at ways to support and improve the service.

A current food hygiene certificate is a requirement of the post and the ability to demonstrate an understanding of a food safety system including having a good understanding of the current Allergen legislation are all essential for the post.

Hours of work will be 5 days per week, predominately Monday to Friday 9.00am -5.00pm, However, there will be a requirement to work ad hoc weekends to maintain service levels and cover annual leave, therefore a degree of flexibility is essential within the hours of 7am 7.30pm

We offer enhanced rates of pay for hours worked at the weekend and a generous annual leave entitlement of 27 days rising to 33 days including public holidays. We offer access to the NHS pension scheme and several health service benefits / discounts.

This exciting opportunity would be ideal for someone who has significant supervisory experience and is looking for a fresh challenge with the ability to motivate and lead a team.

For informal enquiries please contact Elaine Woodward, Catering Manager on ext 28964 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
