Senior Software Front-end Developer - 12 month FTC

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Front-end Developer to join our Change and Technology team, on a fixed-term basis of 12 months.

The Role

Reporting to the Technical Development Lead, as a Senior Software Front-end Developer, you will work as part of the digital team to deliver software solutions to customer, business and business-partner needs. You will be responsible for taking the agreed requirements and implementing a solution on the chosen platform, ensuring quality, suitability and maintainability of that solution at all times.

The digital team work across a range of new applications for Golden Charter and its UK network of independent funeral directors. This is a relatively new space for digital technology, meaning we are in a domain which encourages new, innovative solutions. The team will help research and shape these opportunities and deliver products which help the entire industry move forward.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible, singularly and as part of the larger Development team, for translating software requirements and designs into User Interface implementations; communicating designs and design-rationale to the rest of the Development team; and helping deliver that software into Production environments.
• Work with Technology Lead and Software UX/UI Lead to help define team’s use of modern front-end frameworks and methodologies across desktop and mobile.
• Guide the Software Development team in their use of these technologies with regards to UX and UI implementation
• Work with Product Owner and rest of Development team to help assess business opportunities, prototype product options and refine software requirements for new solutions.
• Participate in continuous improvement of Product and Software Development processes as part of the Software Development team.
• Continue to develop and maintain skillset in modern front-end software technologies and methodologies, with the support of Product Owner and Software Delivery Leads. Supports personal development of direct reports with respect to maintaining and developing technical skillsets and knowledge of good software development practice in their relevant area of expertise (eg. Front-end, Back-end, Service-based etc)
• Coaching and Mentoring of Software Developers in the organisation

Essential criteria

• Proven work experience as a front-end developer embedded in cross-functional software development teams
• Participation in iterative and incremental software development in BDD and Agile environments.
• Proven working knowledge of modern UX/UI design practices and methodologies such as Design Thinking.
• Version control using Git
• Responsive Design skills
• Experience of one or more modern JS framework (Vue.js essential)
• Strong background in JavaScript ( ES6 )
• HTML
• CSS
• Unit testing with jest/Vue test utils’
