Full Job Description

Base Location: Flexible Scotland, however, our preference is that you will be based from one of our key Scotland sites such as Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness. Attendance on-site at locations around Aberdeenshire, is required five days per week., SSEN Transmission has an opportunity for a Site Construction Manager, experienced in the principles of construction and commissioning of major transmission substations. This role will be based in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, where we are constructing a new 400kV substation. The project is part of SSEN Transmission's Accelerated Strategic Transmission Infrastructure (ASTI) scheme and is key to our plans to deliver a Network for Net Zero.

You will represent the SSEN Transmission business on-site and be the key and potentially sole site-based point of contact.

The key duties & responsibilities will be:

  • Key deliverables include earthworks, civils construction, building construction, installation of large scale electrical equipment including GIS & AIS, earthing, building supplies and commissioning activities.


  • Ensure the project is executed in accordance with relevant requirements, particularly relating to statutory and legal obligations, health and safety, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, quality & technical compliance, internal & external personnel and industrial relations.


  • Interacting proactively with the appointed contractor(s) and the operations team to ensure the works are delivered to the project programme, in a safe and environmentally responsible manner with appropriate resource levels.


  • Ensure site activities comply with planning consents and SHE legislation, and accurate, detailed reports and KPIs are prepared and submitted to the Project Manager.


  • Develop effective positive relationships with contractors, suppliers and the community, acting as a leader on site and champion for an effective and collaborative safety culture., At SSEN Transmission, we take immense pride in owning and operating the high-voltage electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland.     A strong knowledge of electrical plant installation and testing, cabling and wiring standards and IEE regulations.


  • A strong engineering and construction knowledge including safety and CDM regulations.


  • HND qualified in engineering or construction management (or equivalent), and have experience in site management of similarly complex works in construction/utilities and/or electrical installation.


  • Understanding of NEC forms of contracts including previous experience fulfilling the role of NEC Supervisor.


  • Effective leadership in challenging environments and ability to cope with conflicting demands, and have excellent planning, organising and communication skills.


  • The role requires a full current driving licence due to the requirement to travel to and be on site.

    Salary: £40,600 - £61,000 depending on experience + car / cash allowance + performance-related bonus + range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.
