Full Job Description

Job Description

Grade: Principal Teacher 1

About the school:

Kirkfieldbank Primary School is a small school which serves the community of Kirkfieldbank and outlying areas. There are 2 multi-composite classes and additional classroom used as a general purpose room, teaching space and play area. Kirkfieldbank Primary has a community hall which comprises a large gym hall with performance stage, a lesser hall area and an additional indoor/outdoor hall which is currently utilised to support outdoor learning. We have a large outdoor space with loose parts play, a MUGA and access to a full sized grass football pitch as part of a community development play equipment park. There is a wooded trail area where we participate in outdoor learning opportunities, daily mile health and wellbeing walks. We take every opportunity to learn outside and have a designated outdoor classroom day each month. We have a thriving garden area which is carefully maintained and produces food for the school and community. Kirkfieldbank is part of a shared headship management structure and have developed very close pupil transition and staff development links with our partner school, New Lanark PS. Kirkfieldbank is part of Lanark Learning Community which demonstrates very positive working relationships and transition activities with the feeder secondary Lanark Grammar School.

We recognize that our pupils are the adults of the future who will have to cope with, adapt to and live within a demanding, fast moving and changing society. Kirkfieldbank is a school at the heart of the community and our curriculum is designed to enhance and maximise learning experiences by utlising and respecting our local environment, community links and resources whilst teaching our children about the world beyond their own experiences. We want our pupils to have the highest ambition in everything they do. Our dedicated team of staff work closely with our wider school community to ensure that each child feels safe, secure, nurtured and supported in realising their full potential. Our underlying aim is to support all of our pupils in becoming successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.

Although specific duties have been drawn up and are defined in this profile, they are not exhaustive and can change to suit the needs and priorities of the school. The necessity for change will be determined by the Head Teacher.

The Principal Teacher will be a member of the Management Team supporting a policy of consultative and participative management and will contribute to the school’s Improvement Plan.
