Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Social Impact Manager to join our Power T&D business unit to work in Scotland.

The main place of work is located on ASTI project sites. There will be additional flexible hybrid working available, from home and our offices at Maxim Park. The post holder will regularly be required to travel across the project locations in the North East of Scotland.

Role Purpose

The postholder will support Balfour Beatty Power T&D project teams to develop and deliver meaningful and measurable social impact within communities in the North East of Scotland, working collaboratively with the wider Balfour Beatty group Social Impact teams and SSEN Economic Development teams.

The postholder will deliver projects that enhance sustainable economic development, training, education and support the community to meet their aspirations through charitable giving and volunteering. In addition, the postholder will design and deliver a community engagement programme that will generate positive outcomes and create long lasting legacy.

What you'll be doing

As a Social Impact Manager, you will have the following accountabilities:

  • Advertise and appoint a community engagement consultancy to lead on the development of our Social Impact legacy programme for the ASTI framework.

  • Work closely with project teams and SSEN to research, develop and deliver a bespoke community engagement plan in North East Scotland

  • Develop the project economic plan to identify opportunities to engage with local suppliers and promote Social Impact at Supply Chain events. Work with our supply chains to facilitate delivery of social impact deliverables such as work experience placements and apprenticeship and job creation.

  • Work with internal recruitment teams to promote jobs created through project delivery, supporting recruitment events locally and promoting opportunities to our local employability partners.

  • Manage and develop our project education plan, working with local schools, college, and universities to develop STEM and career-based resources for students and coordinate staff to deliver workshops.

  • Accurately report & monitor our Social Impact including evidencing local labour, local spend and other key metrics and complete monthly updates to our internal sustainability portal and meet customer reporting needs on a monthly basis or as required.

  • Support our project team to demonstrate our Social Impact during construction works by creating high quality communications content including case studies, press releases, web content, video, podcasts, and social media content.

  • Develop local partnerships with key third sector organisations and promote and coordinate fundraising and volunteering opportunities with community-based groups in the North East of Scotland. Support the development of a Housing Strategy as part of wider Balfour Beatty works in this area.

    You will have the following:

  • Understanding of careers related to Power Transmission & Distribution and renewable energy.

  • Understanding of the Social Impact agenda in Scotland and the wider Social Impact landscape.

  • Knowledge of the National performance Framework and the principles of Community Wealth Building.

  • Knowledge of engaging communities in rural locations and barriers of recruitment in these regions.

  • Clean UK Driver's License.
