Lead Pharmacist Dispensary Services
1.0 WTE Band 7 (37.5 hours) + On call 

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, innovative and highly motivated pharmacist to join our pharmacy team in Clyde Sector. We are looking to recruit a new Lead Pharmacist for Dispensary Services. The post will be split 50:50 with in-patient clinical pharmaceutical care responsibilities.

As Lead for Dispensary Services, you will have professional responsibility for Department based dispensaries operating from the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH), Inverclyde Royal Hospital (IRH) and the satellite dispensary situated within RAH Discharge Lounge. You will be based at RAH dispensary which is a board registered premises also providing dispensing services to 3 local hospices. You will require to visit IRH dispensary to oversee and develop the local team, procedures and processes. You will be an integral member of the NHSGGC Dispensary operational Group responsible for review and implementation of changes to legal requirements, regulations, standard operating procedures and dispensary audit. You will be responsible for the dispensary training of trainee and foundation pharmacists and provide support for NES EL student placements. You will support and develop the dispensary technician team and training programmes at each site.

The post-holder will also be an integral member of the clinical pharmacy team (0.5wte). You will provide a person-centred, safe and effective clinical pharmacy service to inpatients at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The OPSS team at RAH currently consists of 1wte B7 clinical pharmacist supported by a clinical technician and senior specialist pharmacist based at IRH. You will provide patient focussed clinical services to patients within OPSS with a particular focus on patients managed within the ortho-geriatric pathway. You will be an active member of the multidisciplinary team participating in ward rounds and clinical meetings, advertising and promoting the safe and effective use of medicines. Flexibility and good communication skills are essential. The ability to work in close collaboration with senior pharmacy colleagues and demonstrate leadership behaviour will be essential to drive change and quality improvement initiatives. The ability to provide mentorship and training to junior rotational pharmacists and support advanced ward-based technical roles is also a key element of this post. There is opportunity to work with Interface and Home First Response colleagues to ensure continuity of care and support the frailty agenda.

This post would suit qualified pharmacists, registered with the GPhC, who have suitable post graduate experience or equivalent professional practice. You should have completed or be working towards your Independent Prescribing qualification. You should have completed or be ready to submit your Foundation Pharmacist portfolio and be working towards other postgraduate qualifications such as the RPS Advanced Portfolio. Clinical pharmacy experience of older peoples and stroke services, a wide range of medical specialities and orthopaedics would be beneficial but not essential. The post-holder would be expected to meet the requirements of an educational supervisor and will support junior staff undertaking their Foundation Training Year, post-registration Foundation Pharmacist training and hosting experiential learning placements for pharmacy undergraduates.

The Royal Alexandra Hospital is a busy General Hospital with >600 beds located in Paisley serving the Renfrewshire district. Pharmacists participate in a 5 out of 7 day work pattern and are required to participate in weekend working, public holidays and on-call on a rota basis.
