Full Job Description

Loretto School is one of Britain’s leading independent boarding and day schools located on the outskirts of Edinburgh and we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Support for Learning Teacher on a full-time, fixed-term basis with an anticipated start date of August 2024.

 

You will be committed to the quality of learning and teaching whilst providing an engaging and inspiring experience for pupils. You will teach at GCSE and A level and either be currently registered or eligible to be registered, with the General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS). 


You will be an experienced, well qualified practitioner and to have (or to be able to achieve) the following qualifications:

·      Certificate of Competence in Educational Testing CCET & hence registered with the British Psychology Society.

·      Certificate of Psychometric Testing (which includes assessing for access arrangements) i.e., the CPT3A.

·      Specific Learning Difficulties Assessment Practicing Certificate (SpLD APC).

 

The role of the Support for Learning Teacher is primarily concerned with screening/testing and supporting pupils with identified support for learning requirements while carrying out small group teaching across ages 12-16. Much of the screening is carried out within the School and it is, therefore, necessary that the successful candidate is suitably qualified (or capable of quickly becoming qualified) to carry out screening tests. You will be fully aware of both JCQ and SQA regulations in terms of Access Arrangements for pupils, and required to be capable of being an assessor for JCQ Form 8 completion.

Loretto is known for nurturing all pupils, helping them develop into knowledgeable, capable and confident young adults. All staff are expected to contribute fully to the Schools extensive academic, pastoral, and co-curricular timetables including teaching on Saturday mornings, along with weekend and evening duties.   


This is a full-time post, fixed term for one year. Salary will be determined by experience and aptitude for the role. In addition, as recognition of the contribution to the co-curricular program, a further salary allowance is also paid.
