Full Job Description

Strathcarron Hospice Retail is seeking to recruit a Support Retail Manager
to assist across our 12 locations in the local Forth Valley area.

Duties include covering for absences of other Retail Managers, day to day
management of the charity shops and assisting in the development of our
new Stenhousemuir Store and Furniture Store.

We are looking for applicants with good communication skills, strong retail
backgrounds with experience in visual presentation, marketing strategies,
and stock control. You will work closely with other Retail Managers and our
volunteers to maximise sales and provide excellent customer service.

We are ambitious to develop our shops and you will be instrumental in
driving projects to implement new systems, ideas and products.

Applicants must have a clean driving licence and access to the use of a
vehicle to enable them to visit any of our outlets.

Applicants should be flexible and able to work at weekends and cover other
shops when required.

This post is subject to a check by Disclosure Scotland, To provide cover to retail units including the new Stenhousemuir outlet and
Furniture Store to ensure the maximisation of sales and profitability of our
shops. To undertake specific projects to ensure the smooth running of the retail
units., Planning and Organising

  • To provide cover to individual shops as directed, ensuring adequate and

  • appropriate cover is provided for the shop trading hours.
  • To meet agreed sales targets.

  • To manage and co-ordinate the day to day retail activities and volunteer team

  • within the shop.
  • To manage the agreed stock rotation system within shop to ensure stock

  • displayed is both regularly refreshed and updated.
  • To manage and co-ordinate window and shelf displays within the Shop

  • operational guidelines.
  • To manage and co-ordinate the processing of donated goods within agreed

  • guidelines selecting appropriate goods for sale/recycling.
  • To operate and manage a pricing policy to maximise profit from donated goods.

  • To ensure efficient and effective shop operations by following guidelines to

  • include stock storage and disposal of rubbish.
  • To manage and co-ordinate the sale and stock control of all bought in goods

  • including Christmas cards.
  • To liaise and assist in the transfer of goods to other shops.

  • To select appropriate goods suitable for realising more money through e-bay, or

  • specialist vintage shops.
  • To train new volunteers.


  • 6. Financial and Security

  • To control expenditure of a small petty cash float.

  • To control expenditure, minimise costs and authorise expenses within budget.

  • To seek opportunities to maximise value from donated goods according to Shop

  • Policy.
  • To ensure daily banking with accurate and timely completion of daily sales

  • ledger and weekly reporting.
  • To follow agreed till and cashing up procedures when handling money.

  • To ensure correct procedures are followed by the shop for the sale receipt of

  • donated money.
  • To ensure that Health and Safety and Trading Standards regulations are

  • adhered to within the individual shop.
  • To ensure that Hospice and Shop policies are adhered to.

  • To maintain adequate security and safety of shop, money, goods and personnel.

  • To promote and develop Gift Aid for donated stock.

  • To report accidents according to Hospice policy and report any maintenance

  • requirements according to guidelines.
  • To follow security procedures when handling donations.

  • To ensure shop volunteers are trained in fire/evacuation procedures.



  • Customer Service

  • To provide excellence in customer service at all times.

  • To show real appreciation to donors for all donated goods at all times.

  • To deliver and maintain high standards of presentation, stock, and

  • housekeeping
  • To actively listen to customers and volunteers to demonstrate time and care.





  • To co-ordinate with the Fundraising Manager regarding the efficient collection

  • and distribution of donated items as required.
  • To create a welcoming, happy and appreciative atmosphere for customers and

  • shop volunteer team.
  • Encourage team work and exhibit leadership values.

  • Positively promote the role and working of the Hospice within the community.

  • Ensure shop volunteer team is regularly briefed on key issues, activities and

  • changes to policy.

  • ensure ongoing training.

  • Responsible for daily operations of individual shop as required, helping to

  • achieve their weekly, quarterly and annual sales targets.
  • Annual Performance and Development review system.

  • Temperature, (if applicable): From 28th February 2011 the Scottish Government

  • introduced a new membership scheme to replace and
    improve upon current disclosure arrangements for people who
    work with vulnerable groups. If the duties of this post involve
    regulated work with children and young people and/or protected
    adults, the successful candidate will require to be a member of the
    PVG Scheme and consent to Strathcarron Hospice obtaining a
    Scheme Record or a Scheme Record Update, if they are already a

    Police Act Disclosure Check
    (if applicable): If the duties of this post require the declaration and validation of
    criminal convictions, the successful candidate will be required to
    complete a standard or enhanced Police Act Disclosure Scotland
    check prior to any offer of appointment being made. In the event of

    and Strathcarron Hospice; attending training, development and
    other activities aimed at improving own skills and for the benefit of
    the organisation and patient care.

    To operate and develop profitable second hand retail outlets to secure funds for

  • the Hospice.
  • To raise awareness of the Hospi ce, it's brand and services in the community.

  • To develop and promote good working relationships with volunteers.

  • To work alongside the Hospice complying with relevant policies.

  • To investigate all possible venues for maximising sale of both donated and

  • bought goods., Location: Strathcarron Hospice.

    Salary Scale: Band 2, £23,362 to £25,368 per annum, pro-rata

    Hours: Full Time 37.5 hours per week or Part Time 22.5 - 35 hours per
    week

    Employees may be required to vary the pattern of their working
    week subject to the exigencies of the service.

    Duration: Permanent

    Annual Leave: 27 days rising to 29 days after 5 years' service and to 33 days
    after 10 years' service plus 8 public holidays (pro rata).
    Or
    202.5 hours rising to 217.5 hours after 5 years' service and to
    247.5 hours after 10 years' service plus 60 hours public holiday
    (pro-rata)

    Sick Leave & Pay: In accordance with Strathcarron Hospice provisions

    Superannuation: This post is superannuable under The Falkirk Council Local
    Government Superannuation Scheme and your remuneration will
    be subject to deduction unless you choose to opt out of the
    scheme.

    Right to work in the UK:
    Strathcarron Hospice has an obligation to ensure it does not
    employ any worker who has not been granted the relevant
    permission to work in the UK. This permission is without exception
    granted by the UK Border Agency. We are required to check the
    entitlement to work in the UK for all prospective employees,
