What is the Job Function?

As our Sustainability and Green Skills Instructor, you will be a key member of the Education Team at Kibble’s Skills Academy, you'll take a lead role in supporting young people to develop meta skills with a strong emphasis on sustainability and green skills. Your primary focus will be championing a Net Zero/Sustainability agenda, championing eco-friendly practices, inspiring environmental responsibility, and spearheading projects that contribute to our commitment to sustainability.


Main Duties:

  • To inspire young people and provide instruction in practical skills relevant to the built environment sector.
  • Support and deliver environmental education in line with the green agenda and champion environmental sustainability across the wider organisation.
  • Develop sustainable techniques to reduce recycling and organic waste across Kibble, and, or other green infrastructure projects, that contribute to energy efficiency and biodiversity.
  • Support projects that focus on creating green spaces and eco-friendly landscapes across the organisation and wider.
  • To develop and maintain community gardens sustainably on Kibble’s campus in Paisley, Hillington and St Mirren grounds.
  • To prepare and deliver relevant qualification work/resource materials, along with assessing, recording and reporting on the work of young people.
  • To maintain and promote positive work ethics and standards amongst young people.
  • To safeguard the health and safety of all young people and staff.

Any other reasonable duties as required by the Education Manager/Head Of The Skills Academy.


What qualifications and experience are we looking for?

  • Experience in developing and delivering environmental education programmes, with a focus on practical applications and hands-on learning in horticulture.
  • Experience in youth training and working with young people is essential.
  • GTCS registration is desirable, and not essential.
  • Demonstrating a clear commitment to continuing professional development, for example, studying towards a qualification in or relating to additional support needs.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Possess a full driving licence and be willing and able to drive school transport.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Skills.

Safe Crisis Training (SCM)

Successful candidates will require a level of fitness to be able to carry out SCM. Please see note section below (4) for further information.

  4. The successful candidate will be required to undertake Safe Crisis Management (SCM) training and will require a level of fitness to be able to carry out SCM. The successful candidate must be able to participate fully in this training and be prepared to put this training into practice.
  5. The SCM training will consist of two days theory and two days physical training. The successful candidate must complete this training in full within four weeks of an agreed start date. Should the candidate for any reason fail any aspect of the SCM training (theory, physical or both parts), an additional two weeks will be given to pass.
  6. Appointments will be subject to a twelve-month probationary period.
