Job Description

Midlothian

Main Grade Teacher £32,217 - £48,516

Permanent

Full Time

Currently, Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 30 primary schools and 4 standalone Early Learning and Childcare settings. Our special school, Saltersgate, and special provisions in each locality provide support for children with a range of physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 50 children to our largest secondary with approximately 1,600 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings.

Dalkeith High School serves the town of Dalkeith and the surrounding areas. Dalkeith is a growing town on the outskirts of Edinburgh, with the excellent public transport links to the capital. The centre of the town is less than two miles by road from the Edinburgh bypass, a factor that has resulted in significant amounts of new housing built in the area leading to a growing school roll.

At Dalkeith we live and breathe our school vision of ‘enabling all young people to succeed in an inclusive, respectful and stimulating environment.’

Dalkeith High School is a secondary school in Midlothian with a current roll of 930 learners. The school’s catchment area covers the towns of Dalkeith, Eskbank, Danderhall, Pathhead and surrounding villages. The school receives several placing requests as a result of its strong reputation based on attainment record and many opportunities for wider achievement. The school shares a Campus facility with St David’s RC High School, Saltersgate Special School and Woodburn Primary School. The campus was built in 2004 and has a number of high quality facilities including an excellent sports and leisure complex.

Dalkeith is known for the breadth of curriculum we offer to our pupils. Traditional and non-traditional routes to success are encouraged. We are looking for a staff member who will be aspirational for our pupils and join a very vibrant staff who work hard to develop exciting opportunities for our young people.

The History department sits within our Humanities Faculty. This consists of Histroy and Religious and Morale Education. There are currently two full time permanent History teachers in post and we are looking to add to this team.

The Extended Leadership Team consists of 4 Deputy Head teachers; 13 Curriculum Leaders; 4 Pupil Support Leaders, A Principal Teacher of Enhanced and Complex Needs and a Principal Teacher of Pupil Support.

The school also has an extremely supportive and vibrant Parent Partnership.

Further information about the school can be obtained by visiting the school website or by following the school on Twitter.
