Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity is available for a suitably experienced and registered health care professional to train as a cardiothoracic Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP).

The training period is 3 years and involves part time study at Edge Hill University together with completion of clinical portfolio at GJNH.  Full financial support for the academic work is provided.

Entry to the programme requires the successful candidate to:

Be a registered non-medical practitioner working within a specific/specialist area of surgical practice, registered with a healthcare professional statutory regulatory body.

Demonstrate ability to work at masters level, evidenced by prior studies. Minimum requirement is lower second-class honours degree.

Have completed at least 18 months post registration experience in surgical practice.

Training will be supported from our team of Consultant Cardiac Surgeons and experienced SCPs.  You will be trained in the roles of first and second surgical assistant to the Consultant Cardiac Surgeon during surgical procedures.  You will learn how to harvest suitable venous conduits for coronary bypass surgery using both open and endoscopic techniques.

You will develop within this role and be expected to perform these duties to a high level of clinical skill and knowledge to achieve effective patient care and measureable outcomes.
