Full Job Description

Gillespie Macandrew has an excellent opportunity for a Trainee Tax Assistant to join the Tax team in our Private Client department based in our Edinburgh office.

The role of the Trainee Tax Assistant is to assist in the provision of tax compliance and day to day administration activities as part of a specialist team to a portfolio of clients. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual starting out in their career or for someone looking to develop their career further in a professional environment as all relevant training will be provided.

Duties & responsibilities:

Some of the duties will include:

  • Assisting with the basic preparation of tax returns for review
  • Maintaining records including tax returns and tax payments list
  • Assisting with Capital Gains Tax calculations
  • Maintain and update client Capital Gains Tax records and other appropriate records
  • Carrying out tax research
  • Preparing correspondence to clients and HMRC
  • Preparing fee notes for clients
  • Dealing with statements of account
  • Arranging payments to HMRC 

Person specification:

  • The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills with the confidence and ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships both with internal and external parties.
  • Organisation and prioritisation skills and the ability to work to deadlines and manage a varied workload.
  • A professional manner, strong attention to detail and numeracy.
  • A strong team player who is self-motivated, positive and has a “can do” attitude.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Experience working in a similar role within the Professional Services industry would be beneficial but is not required.
  • The ideal candidate will undergo on-going training carried out by the Tax Team with the possibility of completing tax qualifications such as ATT and STEP.
