General practitioner jobs are widespread throughout Scotland but the profession is also highly competitive. To become a GP you will need to complete a degree course, which will take around five years along with a two-year foundation course. Training in a general practice then takes a further three years, so candidates really need to be committed, but the rewards are huge.
As a GP you may work up to 50 hours a week (some part-time hours are available), working out of a surgery or visiting people in their own homes. You need to feel confident in making a diagnosis, prescribing medication and treatment, giving out general advice, carrying out minor surgery and making referrals. There is a lot of organisation and paperwork involved as well.
The starting salary for a GP is just over 22,000 (GBP) per annum with the chance to earn overtime. Search the general practitioner jobs throughout Scotland quickly and easily right now with us.
