An action plan for your career

If you’re sitting down to read this, stand up now. We don’t mean to sound like a drill sergeant, but being on your feet is good for your health in all sorts of ways.

Alas, too many of us spend our working lives with our bahookies glued to chairs and this lack of activity takes its toll on our health.May2017_Small_Call_Contact_Centre_1

Sitting for extended periods has been blamed for everything from weight gain and back pain to type-2 diabetes and heart disease – and it turns out many of the benefits of going to the gym or cycling to work are rubbed out if we then spend the day in a chair.

If you work in a call centre you may be panicking right now. After all, you have to be front and centre with your screen in order to do your job.

Worry not a jot!

Many call and contact centres are introducing office work-out routines – often just a few simple exercises carried out a couple of times a day in order to get staff moving.

But you don’t need to go all Jiu Jitsu to add movement into your working day.

You can always fit in a few squats and lunges while waiting for the kettle to boil for your Pot Noodle lunch and standing on one leg at the printer will strengthen your hip bones and improve your balance.

Even a quick stretch, with your hands linked above your head, will stop your back muscles from turning flabby, if you do it often enough.

Circling your ankles, meanwhile, will keep your blood moving nicely as you answer queries from callers – as well as making you feel slightly coquettish! Ooh, er!

Add movement into your working day and it isn’t just your body that will benefit. There’s clear evidence it boosts your brain power, makes you sharper and prevents you from feeling exhausted at the end of a shift helping callers with queries.

And when you leave work with a spring in your step, you’re more likely to do something active with your evenings instead of slumping on the sofa to watch Strictly.

The really good news, however, is there are some great call and contact centre vacancies on s1jobs where employers already have activity programmes in place.

This means it’s time for action, so ready, steady, look for the latest call and contact centre vacancies with s1jobs.
