Construction and the meaning of life

As well as winning the Lottery rollover, true happiness, they say, is about doing work that benefits others.

Construction-2-image

If that’s true, plumbers, plasterers, roofers and bricklayers should be the happiest workers in Scotland because construction projects set to start in the next few months will improve the lives of many thousands of people.

They will also create lots of fabulous construction roles on s1jobs.

So check out the vacancies, pick your project . . . and get ready to smile!

Loch Lomond

The operators of Flamingo Land in Yorkshire have been named as preferred developers for a 20-hectare site in Balloch.

The new resort in the National Park will include a lodge, boutique hotel, hostel and glamping pods and will help to link the Loch to the village, provide jobs and boost tourism – while at the same time respecting the delicate balance of nature and beauty of the National Park.

Remember to add bird watching binoculars to your tool belt!

Govanhill

Construction work is about to start on a £5.5 million affordable homes development at a derelict site in this area of Glasgow.

The 42 new homes will provide much needed social housing in one of the poorest parts of Glasgow and transform a vacant area of land.

Land a job here and you’ll also be doing your bit for the community.

Aberdeen

Aberdeen City Council and Hilton Worldwide have signed a franchise licence agreement to open a 200-room hotel at the new Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, in a development set to create 350 jobs.

The hotel is part of Aberdeen City Council’s £516 million investment in capital programmes over the next five years.

Head north if you want to help give the city global appeal.

Edinburgh

City planners have given the go-ahead for a £16.8 million extension to the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh.

The extension will treble the exhibition space, improve visitor access and create a new entrance in East Princes St Gardens.

Work will start next Spring and continue until Autumn 2018, so why not put yourself in the picture?

Bellahouston

Work is about to start on the new Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow. A public appeal is underway to raise the final £2.7 million of the £21 million cost, with the first patients arriving in 2018.

The hospice will be the first in the country to follow a Scandinavian model that puts patients and families first, and provides space for privacy, dignity and compassionate care for all ages.

Now that’s a construction role well worth taking.
