Established more than 200 years ago the University of Strathclyde has always had a global outlook. The University is situated in the heart of Glasgow and has a vibrant, international community including 22,000 students and more than 3,000 staff from 100 countries. Strathclyde is dedicated to ‘useful learning’ and is recognised internationally for its close working relationships with businesses and its partnerships with industry and government.
The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, part of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, is seeking to appoint an experienced and self-motivated part-time Administrative Assistant, to primarily support its core teaching and education activities during a period of maternity leave. This post is 21 hours per week – minimum of 2 days campus based.
Working as part of a busy team, you will provide organisational and administrative support to the Department across a broad range of tasks. The postholder will be required to contribute to delivering high-quality support for the key strategic goal of delivering an outstanding education and student experience. This will involve working collaboratively with colleagues from other Departments and Faculties across the University with a degree of personal responsibility and decision-making. You will be expected to work with minimal supervision, escalating queries and issues where required.
To be considered for the role, you should be educated to HNC level in a relevant ADMINISTRATION subject, with significant experience in a similar HE or FE role/environment. In addition, you will have excellent organisational / planning skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), and a broad range of IT skills, with the versatility and enthusiasm to embrace new challenges. You must be capable of undertaking the role with a high level of personal responsibility and initiative, and be comfortable and effective in interacting with, and influencing, key internal and external stakeholders at a wide range of levels.
Potential candidates must address all Essential criteria (listed under Person Specification) by evidencing within the ‘Supporting Statement’ section on the application form how you meet each individual specification.
Only Application Forms only will be used for shortlisting purposes. CVs will not be considered for shortlisting.
Initial interviews have been scheduled for Wednesday 21st October 2026.
