About Strathclyde
Strathclyde was established as the UK's first technological university in 1964, with origins dating back to the founding of Anderson's Institution in 1796. For more than 230 years, we have remained true to our founding ethos as a place of useful learning.
Today, we are Scotland's third-largest university, with around 30,000 students and a global reputation for excellence in education, research and innovation. As a values-led institution, we are committed to delivering positive societal impact through useful learning, world-leading research and innovation, and strong partnerships with industry, government and communities. Through our strategic framework, Strathclyde 2030, we are shaping tomorrow's world by addressing global challenges and creating opportunities for future generations.
The Opportunity
The Director of Estates (Strategy and Transformation) will provide strategic leadership and expertise in the shaping and development of a modern, resilient, and highly sustainable urban campus. They will ensure the strategic enablement of the University’s world-class teaching, research and innovation strategies through the provision of a high quality, adaptable and fit-for-purpose estate supporting working, residential and recreational spaces on the main John Anderson campus and satellite sites in the UK and overseas.
As such, the Director plays a critical role in facilitating the realisation of the University’s strategic plan, Strathclyde 2030, by supporting the operational delivery of our strategy by providing an outstanding student and staff experience, with the University’s Net Zero commitments being central to the role.
The Director will be supported by three Assistant Directors and will lead an extensive multi-disciplinary and highly skilled team of 300+ staff. The team is responsible for all aspects of maintenance, development, planning, sustainability and climate adaptation of the campus footprint. The post holder will provide a clear vision and set appropriate targets for the achievements of the team and their professional development.
In addition to leading the Estates Team at the University, the post holder will play a crucial role advising and supporting the CFO, the Chair of the Estates Strategy Committee, the Executive Team and the University Court, on the development and execution of an Estates Strategy that will support financial sustainability and the successful delivery of the University’s overall strategy.
