Lead Childrens Worker (nights) - Part Time

Join our Children with Disabilities service in Springburn as a Lead Children’s Worker working night shifts, supporting children and young people during their short-break stays.

You’ll help provide a safe, calm and supportive environment throughout the night, making sure each child receives care that reflects their individual needs. As a Lead Children’s Worker, you’ll combine hands-on support with the responsibility of leading the shift, making decisions and supporting colleagues to provide consistently high-quality care.

Our service provides short-break stays for children and young people with disabilities, helping them build confidence and independence in a caring and safe environment.

This role is open to female applicants only. Being female is an Occupational Requirement for this role under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

What you’ll do
* Take the lead during night shifts, coordinating the team and allocating responsibilities.
* Provide personal care based on each child’s individual needs, including support with toileting, dressing, eating, drinking and personal hygiene.
* Take responsibility for the overnight respite centre in the absence of the Team Leader or Service Manager.
* Help children feel safe, settled and supported throughout their stay.
* Follow individual care plans and risk assessments, keeping records and documentation accurate and up to date.
* Safely administer medication in line with individual care plans and procedures.
* Support children with mobility needs safely and sensitively.
* Respond calmly and confidently when children need additional support or situations become challenging.
* Communicate effectively with colleagues, families and other professionals.
* Support and mentor colleagues, helping maintain consistently high standards of care.

About you

You’ll be someone who combines warmth and compassion with the confidence to take responsibility during a night shift. You’ll have an SVQ 3 in Social Care (Children), HNC or equivalent SCQF Level 7 qualification, along with experience of working with children, ideally including children with additional support needs. You’ll be comfortable supporting children who may display challenging behaviour and will bring strong communication, teamwork and organisational skills. You’ll also be able to stay calm, make sound decisions and maintain high standards of care throughout the night. Experience in care, education or youth work and building positive relationships with families would be an advantage. You’ll need to be a member of the PVG Scheme and registered with the SSSC, meeting the standards required for your registration.
