Please note if this is a Trainee post, Annex 21 applies*

For trainees covered by Annex 21 where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows:

Up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;
More than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified;
More than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.
More than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.

The Role

The post holder works as part of a team of Qualified Dental Nurses and provides full surgery and administrative support to Clinicians (Public Dental Officers, Senior Dental Officers, Consultant Orthodontists, Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, Associate Specialists, training grade dentists, SpRs, SHOs, Dental Hygienists & Dental Therapists). The duties include all the duties normally expected of a Qualified Dental Nurse in terms of chair/bed side, surgery and theatre clinical assistance and administrative assistance.

The post holders is expected to work in a variety of settings across Lanarkshire, with any clinician, with any type of patient undergoing a wide variety of treatments (examinations and assessments, restorations, extractions, surgical procedures, prosthodontic treatment, preventive treatments, x-rays, orthodontic treatment, treatment under local anaesthetic, sedation (oral, inhalation and intravenous) general anaesthetic etc).

IT skills , be able to use a computer and have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and an understanding of the Data Protection act

Please note this is a fixed term post for 24 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Dental within Buchanan Centre.

The working pattern for this role is Mon-Fri 08:30 - 16:30.

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

NHS Lanarkshire will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer. If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly.
