New homes mean new job opportunities

It might put a grin on the face of Bob the Builder, but the prospect of a new housebuilding is not only good news for the Construction industry in Scotland. It’s also good news for those who work in the Property sector.

For property professionals – from Estate Agents to Estimators, Mortgage Advisors to Movers – high-quality, newbuild housing developments quite literally mean new avenues for sales and service opportunities.

Supplying new homes in key areas where the market may have been failing to keep pace with the demands of would-be buyers not only safeguards, but helps to create Property jobs.

And this is why many in the industry believe Christmas has come early with the announcement of plans to regenerate 14 dormant sites across Scotland.

Property management, investment and development company London & Scottish Developments (L&SD) is planning to transform the vacant Tesco sites that it bought last year,

Ten will deliver a quarter of a million square feet of retail shopping space, but four others have been sold on to housebuilders – who will build more than 300 new homes.

The four new housing sites are in East Kilbride, Kilmarnock, Paisley and Coatdyke, with work due to start early next year, subject to final planning.

With development plans such as these being put in place, isn’t about time to start drawing the blueprints and laying down the foundations for your own career in Property?

Don’t worry if you’re just starting out: many estate agencies offer in-house or online training modules and tests, providing fresh-faced newbies with the opportunity to obtain qualifications.

Many UK firms also take on graduates directly into their training schemes.

Don’t imagine you even need a background in buying or selling houses, because work skills from other sectors are easily transferrable.

The property industry is a good fit for people who have experience in Construction, Engineering, Communications and Customer Service – all of these sectors bring knowledge and people skills that can find a new home in the Property world.

Above all, however, for a newbuild career in property you’ll need to be able to demonstrate that you’re motivated and not shy of putting in some graft – so be prepared to show off your enthusiasm and drive at your interview.

The rest is safe as houses.
