How to prove you’re a born leader in property

Where would Hannibal be without his army of elephants? Could Britney Spears ever have made it to superstardom without her posse of Disney Mousketeers?

Yes, every successful person understands their greatest asset is their support team and this is just as true in the Property business.

If you’re looking to start a successful career as an Estate Agent or move up the ladder, however, you’re going to have to prove you can offer the team the right direction and drive.

Here are three ways to prove you’re a born leader.

1) Put clients first

If the customer gets a good a deal, the Agency gets a good deal. This is why it’s vital you lead by example in showing your team they must always put the customer first.

A really successful Estate Agent has their clients’ wish list as top priority – and this means knowing in detail what they want.

For example, are they looking for a love-at-first-sight home or an investment property?

If you can show everyone why it’s important to recognise client needs, you’re leading your team to success and enhanced brand reputation for the company.

2) Reward success

You don’t have to bring in a box of cakes every day (though this helps!). You do have to be able to motivate those around you by congratulating them on their successes.

Perhaps they’ve sold a particularly challenging house (that one that looks like it was abandoned on Halloween by the Addams Family)?

Or proved they can deal politely and effectively with challenging clients, such as the Addams Family?

Leaders who let employees know they’re valued boost morale . . . and this boosts business.

3) All in good time

Instill in your team the need to fully appreciate your clients’ time frame. If someone is in a hurry to buy, sell or rent, the agent should take this into consideration and work to a much tighter time frame.

Conversely, if a customer isn’t in a rush, you can help them shop around for longer and, if necessary, advise them to wait for a better deal – or even a better market.

So if a client needs a professional who is able to be patient and look at the long game, or someone who is a keen go-getter, allow team members to focus on portfolios that best suit their strengths.
