  Post:  Financial Inclusion Advisor   (FIA) Grade:                             EVH Grade 6 Date of  Last Revision: New Post Responsible To:        Housing Manager 1.        GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POST The Financial Inclusion Advisor (FIA) works alongside the Financial Inclusion Coordinator (FIC) to deliver the day to day activities of SHAMAS (Shettleston Housing Association Money Advice Service) and to establish it as a valuable community resource The FIA delivers debt advice and financial capability assistance to financially vulnerable and excluded Shettleston residents and assists with the maintaining of records and collating statistical information in relation to the project. 2.        ACCOUNTABILITY The FIA is line managed by the Shettleston Housing Association Housing Manager and takes day to day direction from the FIC.  He/she is accountable to the SHA Management Committee through the Operations Sub-Committee and is subject to powers delegated to staff by the Management Committee. 3.        PRINCIPAL DUTIES General   1.           To work alongside key Shettleston Housing Association staff and partners to establish SHAMAS as a valuable local resource. Provision of face to face money and debt advice service to financially excluded individuals and families. 2.           To provide money and debt advice to financially excluded individuals and families on a one-to-one basis. 3.           Act for clients where necessary, drafting letters, budgets and financial statements and carry out any calculations as appropriate. 4.           Negotiate with third parties as appropriate. 5.           Assist clients with other related problems where they are an integral part of their case and refer to other advisors or specialised agencies as appropriate. 6.           Maintain case records for the purpose of information retrieval, monitoring against project outcomes and report preparation. Develop and deliver a series of financial capability and inclusion workshops or tailored one-to-one sessions on the following:   7.           Household budgeting – to include basic IT and internet tuition e.g. how to get best deals, internet banking. 8.           Sensible banking, borrowing and debt management - to include understanding and managing bank accounts, awareness of affordable and unaffordable forms of credit, loan consolidation etc. 9.           Tackling fuel poverty (in partnership with SEA project) - to include how to access cheaper fuel tariffs, smart meters, energy efficiency products. 10.        Benefit entitlements (in partnership with Welfare Rights Service) to include full income maximisation check and benefit uptake, understanding and completion of forms Miscellaneous   11.        To assist with maintaining records, collating statistical information for the purpose of monitoring against project outcomes. 12.        To assist in liaising with partner organisations and delivery partners, developing clear lines of communication and setting up referral protocols to ensure service users receive the most useful and appropriate intervention. 13.        To assist in the preparation and delivery of presentations to partner organisations and community groups as required. 14.        Any other duties appropriate to the post.
